Pop-up Toilet Company
Marco Schimmel had already been renting out mobile toilets for 10 years when the municipality of Apeldoorn asked him to come up with a more permanent solution for toilet units at the weekend in popular public places. That was in 1999 and the result was the UriLift, a unique, retractable urinal, patented by the Pop–up Toilet Company. It is the only company in the world designing, building and supplying these systems.
International press
Marco Schimmel remembers the launch of the first UriLift in Apeldoorn well: “Within two days all the national and international press had descended. I got a tip to buy The Sunday Times; it turned out they had devoted almost a whole page to our product and the Apeldoorn pilot. Since then things have boomed”.
Integral concept
Pop-up Toilet Company has now supplied more than 250 UriLifts to local authorities at home and abroad. The UriLifts are found in cities such as Cologne, London, Paris, Genk, Belfast, Amsterdam, Gothenburg, Perth and, closer to home, Zutphen and Deventer as well as Apeldoorn. About 50% of sales revenue comes from abroad. This is expected to rise sharply in the future. Enquiries are coming in from many places overseas including Canada, the USA, and the Middle East. The company also supplies other public toilet systems; its specially developed women’s toilet is attracting a lot of attention. Marco: ‘We closely asses every request because we don’t only supply the urinals, we also take care of maintenance and cleaning. We can serve the whole of Europe from Apeldoorn. Further afield, we look for partners who can do the job well for us; as soon as they have gained our trust, we can start taking new orders. Everything rests on the guarantee of our quality standards”. Besides further growth in sales of the UriLifts and public toilets, Marco also expects major developments in the events sector where mobile toilets have hardly changed in 25 years. Pop-up Toilet Company has designed an extendable, mobile toilet unit that saves 80% in transport costs and is quick to put up and take down.
Pop-up Toilet Company expects continued growth in the future. The focus is on consolidating sales in current countries and making inroads in southern Europe. The workforce of 17 is also expected to expand.
Export countries: Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, France, Sweden, Denmark, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia.
