EnergyAlert.nl
EnergyAlert was established in 2004 as an offshoot from another IT business, the Apeldoorn-based company Oblivion. Oblivion is a specialist in collecting and interpreting all sorts of data. EnergyAlert was set up as an online energy consumption management tool to promote energy conservation among individuals and businesses. The cleanest and cheapest energy is the energy we don’t use. A clear overview of energy consumption is essential to gaining insight into where energy savings opportunities lie.
EnergyAlert reads the usage data of your meter or metering company, so the customer can monitor their energy usage at any time and adjust this accordingly if required. This is offered as a free service. As of today (2021), 82,000 households use EnergyAlert. For a small monthly fee, the consumption data can be enriched with additional services, such as reading out meters, monitoring services, email alerts, monthly reports, and much more.
Individual customers have daily access to their consumption data that accurately displays electricity consumption per fifteen minutes and gas consumption per hour. Individuals can also compare their usage with average usage based on the type of house, surroundings and total consumption. Surplus energy returned to the grid from solar panels and standby power consumption (devices unnecessarily left on 24/7) are also included in the portal.
Besides individuals, EnergyAlert also services the professional market. Businesses, property owners and housing corporations like to keep a real-time overview of how much energy their company activities or buildings consume. EnergyAlert reads out over 100,000 business meters (as of 2021), which generates a wealth of data. The effect of energy-reduction measures such as insulation, for instance, can be calculated accurately to the finest detail through access to so much factual data. With this quantity of data, benchmarks can also be set at a district level. A ranking list can easily be generated of the most energy-efficient and energy consumptive districts.
Given that many customers are also active outside Dutch borders and wish to monitor their energy consumption in sites abroad, EnergyAlert also reads out meters in Belgium and Germany. However, the focus for the near future remains on the Netherlands as there is still much room for growth.
Export countries: Belgium, Germany
